Ronald “Ron” Welnetz is currently fighting Stage IV bile duct cancer.

On April 9, Ron was diagnosed with Stage IV adenocarcinoma. Over the past several months, he has faced incredibly difficult physical challenges, including painful fluid buildup and the need to receive daily nutrition through an IV. Despite everything, Ron continues to fight with determination and resilience.

Recently, Ron received an important and hopeful update. Specialized testing revealed that his cancer is HER2-positive, meaning he may benefit from a highly targeted treatment called trastuzumab. His medical team strongly recommends adding this medication to his treatment plan, especially after previous chemotherapy treatments were not as effective as hoped.

This is not an experimental treatment. Trastuzumab is a medically recognized targeted therapy designed specifically for cancers with this genetic marker, and research has shown that it can help slow cancer progression and improve quality of life.

Unfortunately, while insurance approved standard chemotherapy treatments, coverage for trastuzumab was denied. An appeal is currently being pursued, but Ron’s condition is time-sensitive, and waiting through a lengthy appeals process is simply not an option.

The estimated out-of-pocket cost for each treatment ranges between $10,000 and $17,000.

Anyone who knows Ron knows his passion for racing and the racing community. He is a huge fan of the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and has always admired the grit, perseverance, and determination it takes to compete at that level. Those same qualities are now part of his own fight.
