Hello all,
On 3rd June 2025, our daughter, Sasha Elena Magri Overend, was born at Greenwich Hospital in Connecticut. She spent her first days in the NICU, where the care she received was nothing short of exceptional – both gentle and expert in equal measure. We’re incredibly grateful to the team who looked after her during such a vulnerable time.
This September, I’m taking on the New York Jones Beach Half Ironman – a 70.3-mile endurance race (swim, bike, and run) – and I’ll be raising funds in support of Greenwich Hospital’s NICU. Plans are underway to renovate both the NICU and Labor & Delivery units at Greenwich Hospital, with a focus on family-centred care. A key part of this is moving from open curtain bays to private rooms – creating a more calming, tailored environment for newborns and their families, and allowing parents to stay overnight with their babies.
For us, going home after just 3 nights without Sasha – while she remained in the NICU for over a week – was incredibly tough. We needed constant reassurance, and the nurses and doctors were truly outstanding. They didn’t just care for Sasha – they taught us how to care for her, patiently guiding us through the basics as first-time parents. They even lent us equipment to take home and went above and beyond in every possible way. It honestly felt like Sasha had ten different aunties.
This fundraiser is a small way to help make that kind of care and support possible for other families in the future. Any contribution, however modest, would mean a great deal. At the end of the campaign, we’ll donate the full amount raised directly to the NICU and share an update so you can see the impact.
Thank you for reading and for supporting a cause so close to our hearts.
Warm wishes,
Michael, Sarah & baby Sasha
