Hi everyone, I’m reaching out because my health journey has taken a very sudden and serious turn. Recently, I tested positive for the BRCA2 gene mutation, which carries a high risk for breast and ovarian cancer. While I was already preparing for the reality of that diagnosis, my most recent screenings brought more urgent news: doctors found a lump in my breast and cysts on my ovaries. Because of these findings and my genetic markers, we cannot afford to 'wait and see.' My medical team has advised that I move forward immediately with a prophylactic double mastectomy and a full hysterectomy. What started as a proactive plan has now become an urgent race to stay ahead of cancer. I am choosing to fight this now, on my terms, before it becomes a different kind of battle.
Facing two major surgeries at once is a massive physical and financial undertaking. Because of the intensive nature of these procedures, I will be out of work for 3 to 6 months. We will only be a one income household for that time. I am so grateful for the love and support I’ve already received. I am ready to get this behind me and start my healthy, cancer-free future.
With gratitude, Christina
