Hello, racing friends. I am here to ask for your help. Not for me personally, my life is very blessed. I am trying to help one of the all-time legends in Northeast circle track racing: Carlton "Corky" Stockham. If you have been at all involved in local racing in the last 50 years, you probably know him, or at least his name. Corky was the founder of the nationally renowned National Parts Peddler newspaper. It was a monthly paper dedicated to buying and selling anything related to racing, as well as promoting the sport and all related vendors. The National Parts Peddler Racer's Auction and Trade Show, held each fall at the NYS Fairgrounds was THE top event for racers to sell their surplus items on the auction block, shop for new with a large contingent of vendors, attend FREE seminars by racing related vendors, and just enjoy getting together with our extended racing family. Corky was a huge sponsor/donor to race teams of all types and sizes over the years... he famously procured a brand new Supermodified to be given as a prize- free of charge- to that year's Limited Supermodified Track Champion; the sole purpose being to promote both classes at Oswego Speedway. Race cars everywhere were seen wearing the NPP logo, his sponsorship was widespread. Corky also took on the Bonneville Salt Flats and still holds the record of the Fastest Man Ever from central NY, reaching an incredible top speed of 275.500 MPH in 1990.

In spite of all he has accomplished, the ensuing years have not been kind to Corky. Life evolves, nothing is forever. Printed media of all types have become mostly obsolete. Eventually the NPP newspaper had to shut down; along with it The auction/trade show. Today in his later years, his health and finances are a mere shadow of the glory days. Corky survives on a small Social Security income. That brings us to the purpose of this fundraiser.

Corky's only means of transportation is a beyond-worn out 1999 truck. Barely functional and a massive gas hog, he is in desperate need of a better vehicle to get him to the store and doctor's appointments, and help care for his grandchildren, who reside with him. We are endeavoring to do this small favor for a man who has given so many of us so much. As a lifelong used car dealer, I will use the donations to personally select and purchase a dependable, quality, SAFE vehicle at wholesale price with NO markup, as a thank you for all he did for my racing over the years. EVERY PENNY raised will be spent directly on this vehicle. Racing friends, and non-racers who can respect a worthwhile cause, are asked to contribute whatever you can, no matter how small, to help a one-of-a-kind, dedicated racing promoter. The more that is raised, the newer the vehicle we can get. Again, ALL proceeds will go for Corky's car. Please help if you can, and God Bless.
