Racial Representation Scholarship

Donation protected
First, I want to honor the three most recent deaths in a continual battle of racial and social injustice in America - Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN.

My name is Elias Laboy. I am a registered nurse at Galisano Children's Hospital in Rochester, NY. My heart for all people, but specifically to the racial minority and the black community in the U.S today, has heightened astronomically. I have learned how the wounds of slavery have continued to be opened by acts of racism and social injustice in our communities all throughout the U.S. As a racially diverse healthcare professional, I want to use my voice for influence and change. Realizing that not all people have easy access to education after high school, I realized a need for empowering the racially diverse to continue education. I believe that this empowerment will result in better racial representation in the professional world, and hopefully make contributions to the end of racism in our country.

As a proactive member of striving for change, I have organized a donation raising money to give 5 $1000 donation to racially diverse local college students striving for higher education. I believe that in change will also come professional representation of all races. Education is not easily attainable for all people, and with that said, I want to be a community that supports 5 young people who could benefit from the small scholarship of $1000. This is an opportunity to be a part of healthy and much needed change int the U.S, as well as empowering the racially diverse youth for success.

Best case scenario would be this GoFundMe fundraiser blowing up and raising so much more than $5000. Every last penny will go towards supporting five racially diverse students in attaining education goals and representing who they are in their chosen profession. This is not a "charity act", but simply a "thank you" from our community, the givers to this fundraiser, and myself to students who are proud of who they racially and want to empower people in the future to be proud, too. To the black community, I am with you. To the young racially diverse of Rochester, I am with you. To the Floyd, Arbery, Taylor, and all other families negatively impact by racial hate or discrimination, I am with you. As a community, we can all show 5 hardworking students that we are with them.

I am reaching out to you today asking for your help in sharing this message throughout you campus' workplaces, and homes to raise awareness to this need. I hope all can see the importance in supporting those who our country has historically and currently failed to.

One student from each of the following institution will receive a the scholarships.

-Monroe Community College
-Roberts Wesleyan College
-SUNY Brockport
-University of Rochester
-Saint John Fisher College

Please join me in striving for a better representation of the racially diverse in the workplace!
