This fundraiser is a desperate plea for a better and healthier life for my mum Rachel, who is currently battling a severe addiction to ice.
It is not only a second chance for her to change her life and find happiness again, but also a chance for myself and my 3 younger brothers; Scott, Boyd and Lawrence to have our mum back.
I am aiming to raise $30,000 to put my mum through a 90 day residental rehab program at the Hader's Women's Rehab in Melbourne. The cost is $9500 per month, followed by after-care upon her successful completion of the 90 days.
Victoria's public rehabilitation services have huge waiting lists, usually a minimum of 6 months. I'm acting now as the alternative is likely a life in prison or death.
Mum has officially hit rock-bottom after being taken into custody last week and I know that without treatment it will likely be an onoing cycle. Upon her being granted bail I would like to get her into rehab as soon as possible to begin her journey to recovery,
It is something that she is ready for, and has openly discussed her need for help and treatment and will be going into rehab voluntarily. She knows its the only way to turn her life around and get her family back.
This fundraiser was not an easy one to create, as I know there will be many people who disagree with the cause. Before going through the heartbreak and suffering that family members of an addict go through, I too probably would have been one of those people. But I would never forgive myself if I didn't try absolutely everything in my power to try help the woman who was once everything I couldve asked for in a mother.
So I implore you to not only believe in second chances for someone who has made a wrong choice but to consider my Nan who wishes nothing more then to see her daughter happy and healthy. Or my younger brothers who don't admit it, but miss their mum terribly and just want her back in their lives.
Two years ago, my mother made a terrible choice. She was a registered nurse who had dedicated years to improving the health and well-being of Indigenous Australians in small communities in Northern Queensland. After making the decision to move to Victoria, she got caught up in the wrong crowd which has led her to this point, an addict.
To those who donate, my family & I are eternally greatful but we also promise:
#1 - Every single cent will go towards her rrehabilitation and treatment.
#2 - I will support her throughout her throughout her treatment to help prevent a relapse
#3 - If she leaves rehab early, every remaining dollar will be donated to the Jane McGrath Foundation - a very deserving charity.
Thankyou to all that took the time to read and an even bigger thankyou to those thatwere able to donate. You will never know how much your support means to my family and I. Please share with your family & friends.
