When Rachel felt a lump this past June, it gave her pause, but she didn’t think it was anything of concern. At the urging of her friend she underwent testing. Within weeks she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, she has undergone a double mastectomy, is about to start the prescribed hormone therapies, and will soon begin the surgeries for the reconstruction phase of her treatment.
A 37-year-old mother of four children ages 12 and under, she has tackled this with an optimistic, fearless attitude; in part because that’s who she is, and in part because she didn’t want to alarm her children with her health diagnosis. Cancer may have taken her breasts, but it has not robbed her of her spunk or ability to inspire others with her courage and positive mindset.
For those of you who have been touched by cancer, you know this illness affects more than just the patient. Rachel‘s battle has impacted her family and upended normal daily life. During her recovery she is unable to work her career as a high school Spanish teacher, nor her side jobs as a tutor and an associate in a retail boutique. She has been reluctant to ask for financial help, but being the sole earner in her household, Rachel needs our support. Let’s help ease the financial burden and allow Rachel to focus on beating this once and for all!
