Hello friends, last week, on the morning of September 15th I was hit by a car in a crosswalk at a red light while walking with my friend to the grocery store. The car quickly speed away leaving me in the road with a broken leg in shock. I went in the ambulance to nearby hospital and learned that I had a severe upper tibia proximal fracture on my left leg and would need surgery to walk and move properly again.
I was put into the ward to await surgery while the swelling went down. Two days later the hospital informed me that travel insurance would not cover the surgery and they would not accept payments. I had to leave the hospital with a shattered leg, no treatment and only ibuprofen for pain. The next few days my 2 friends and I went to multiple hospitals to see if they would accept payments or the insurance with no luck.I called the US embassy and they are unable to help or give loans with anything medical.
I have been working and volunteering in Mexico with a disabled child the past year and a half and have only had my travel health insurance. I was going to start my new job 2 days later in Spain and do not have a safety net at this time in my life. The surgery and aftercare has been quoted to us at around 25,000 euro . The police have had no leads on the person who hit me and I was unable to see their plates. The recovery period is a few months which I will be unable to work in my experienced fields but I will of course try to find new kind of job at this time.
I am humbly asking for any help from friends and family to get this surgery and be able to walk again. Any amount would be forever appreciated. Thankyou
