Rachel's crusade

Life is incredibly cruel sometimes. Rachel had been doing well up until recently. She recently found out the chemo was no longer working. This past week she was experiencing excruciating pain; she was admitted to the hospital where she found out the cancer had rapidly spread to her liver. Rachel and Linda made the difficult decision to preserve the quality of time Rachel has left. Rachel was admitted to an inpatient hospice earlier today, where she can be comfortably cared for and surrounded by love❤️ .

Rachel is an amazing young woman who has overcome numerous challenges in her life. In November 2022, Rachel and her mother Linda came to the ER for what they believed was hip bursitis. By the end of the day, Rachel was diagnosed with Cervical cancer that had metastasized to her bones.

Rachel was able to quickly get in for her first chemo treatment only to hit another obstacle: her left hip was fractured and in the end, Rachel needed bilateral hip replacements. She still needs to continue her chemo treatments and also adding in 10 radiation treatments to her hips and pelvis.

The big issue is that Linda and Rachel have a second floor apartment with lots of steps. At this point, Rachel has not mastered steps and cannot go back home. Multiple options exist including finding temporary housing on a first floor, getting Rachel into acute rehab or a skilled nursing facility that has a rehab program.

Linda and Rachel are in need of our support. Whether it be a friendly face visiting or a phone call, both welcome cheerful messages. Rachel is still waiting for rehab placement, which is tricky when combined with chemo and radiation.
