Rachel joined the Mango Family in May 2020. Whilst Rachel has only been employed with us for a short period of time, the impact she has made over a very busy and challenging time for us is huge. Rachel and a group of her friends (the ‘Glenola Gang’) all worked with us whilst they were off school through COVID 19 and the summer months. It is very clear to everyone that Rachel and her group of friends have a very special bond. Whilst trying to work in such unusual circumstances through a world pandemic, Rachel and the gang made life so much more positive and Mango benefited greatly knowing that their hard working, passionate and positive influences were providing Mangos clients with such great customer satisfaction. We absolutely love Rachel, everything she does is with a bright infectious smile and nothing is ever a problem.

Rachel is just 18 years old and has finished her final year of school. She was really excited as she was due to leave for Glasgow University to study Anatomy is September. Sadly, Rachel’s and her families world was turned upside down in July. After suffering reduced power in her right leg and subsequent foot drop during lockdown, Rachel had an MRI scan presenting a tumour in her spinal cord. She had emergency surgery and then was given the most devastating news. She was diagnosed with a diffuse midline glioma (a very rare and aggressive tumour residing inside her spinal cord) for which there is currently no cure. People with this tumour have a very short life expectancy from diagnosis and therefore Rachel and her family are looking at every option available to potentially prolong Rachel's life as much as possible. While Rachel is currently undertaking 6 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, this route of treatment can only be taken once, so therefore Rachel and her family are looking at further emerging treatment options. They need to raise funds to allow Rachel to take part in a clinical trial in America using a new drug which is unfortunately not available on the NHS. This drug has shown promising signs from previous data and therefore has given Rachel and her family a glimmer of hope that she could potentially fulfil her dream of going to University.

As Rachel’s work colleagues (we like to call ourselves the Mango Family), we want to do everything in our power to help her and her family through this difficult time. Therefore, we are running some Fundraising events as detailed below to support with her treatment in America, as well as a special treat for Rachel and her friends.

***Sponsored walk in fancy dress from Bangor Marina to the Dirty Duck in Holywood (Sat 10th October 10am)  – Those participating will have staggered starts ensuring we are adhering to all COVID regulations***

***24 hour Cycleathon within the Call Centre***

***155Km running/cycling throughout the month of October – equates to 5Km per day***

Any donations to support Rachel would be hugely appreciated.
