Rachel Weiner Needs Our Support
Donation protected
Our dear friend Rachel Weiner (Rachel Kay on facebook) needs our support. Rachel was diagnosed with ME or CFS, chronic fatigue syndrome, in 2017, and her health has been in decline since.
Rachel has been posting about her struggles coping day-to-day with ME/CFS while she continues to fight for disability support. Her symptoms have severely worsened this year tracking to the severe end of ME/CFS, where not getting out of bed is a reality. She has widespread muscle pain and is experiencing situational onsets of brain fog. Her partner Pete is her primary caretaker and is doing his best to support her in addition to his graduate studies, internship and work.
Rachel has been receiving short-term disability payments through the healthcare company supported by her employer. Given recent correspondences with the healthcare provider, she found out that she can no longer receive disability benefits after August 17 2020 except for long-term disability. Rachel is not eligible for long-term disability as it will not cover preexisting conditions.
A group of her classmates that graduated from the International Education Policy program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education have created this page to help raise funds for her. We are aware that this will not fix the health situation, but we hope it will alleviate some of the financial pressures she is facing.
We are hoping this platform will allow those who are far from Rachel physically to show their support and contribute financially towards her health and well being. While we await further updates on her health and situation, please consider donating whatever you can to support Rachel during this time period.
