Hello, my name is Rachel Toliver and I am fundraising money to travel to Kampala, Uganda to help with a non-profit organization called, Hope Speaks. Hope Speaks provides services to children with special needs, where professionals such as speech-language pathologists can engage with the children and assist with communication deficits and swallowing disorders. In addition, I will be trained to provide families with a variety of resources to assist with functional communication and safe swallow strategies to implement in their households.

Currently, I am a graduate student attending Abilene Christian University. I am studying to become a speech-language pathologist. I have been blessed with the opportunity to join Hope Speaks for my final clinical placement. This opportunity will allow me to continue to learn in different settings and to gain the experience of a foreign exchange student. I look forward to learning how I can treat children with severe medical cases. I know this opportunity will allow me to grow and be present with families needing assistance and support.
