Help this absolute legend get a life- changing bed

Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Chris, and I am fundraising on behalf of my friend and employer, Rachel Burney.

Rachel is a young woman with Friedrich's Ataxia and is in need of a modular profiling double bed in order to satisfy the criteria of the Nurse's Guild, who assist Rachel with her daily tasks alongside her P A's.

Rachel needs round-the-clock assistance from 2 people daily, and as her current bed does not meet the Nurse's Guild safety guidelines, they cannot provide her with the two nurses that she needs at any one time.

This not only slows Rachel's recovery from a previous injury but means that they cannot provide relief if one of Rachel's P A's is sick or can't come in for whatever reason.

As Rachel is chronically understaffed, this sometimes results in no- one being able to cover the shift, and she has had to rely on the goodwill of her friends to help look after her on multiple occasions- which obviously is not the level of care that Rachel needs or that the Nursing guild could provide.

Understandably, this situation is exceptionally stressful for Rach and her team- and often, finding someone to provide last-minute cover becomes the entire focus of her attention as it is vital that someone be with her at all times. This damages Rachel's mental health and stops her from being able to interact with the things in her life that she finds meaning in:- art, learning, travel, writing and activism, to name but a few.

Having this bed (and therefore, the full support of the Nurse's Guild) would revolutionise Rachel's care routine and would ensure that she can always access the level of medical care that she needs whenever she needs it.

Rachel has tried to apply for grants and funding to get one of these beds through the Scottish Government and various relevant charities but unfortunately, we are still waiting to hear back about the application's progress and we can't wait any longer. Impending staffing shortages mean that she needs this as soon as possible, due to the potential dangers of Rachel receiving improper care or being in the house alone for any length of time.

All funds we receive will go directly towards this bed, with Rachel pledging to donate any extra money received from the fundraiser to a disabled charity, or someone in the community who she personally knows who is in a similar position to her re: medical equipment.

Rachel is a warm and enthusiastic credit to herself- a real 'larger than life' character- so we thank you in advance for sharing what you can to help her
to move past this obstacle and enjoy her life.
