Thank you for the many prayers and concern expressed on behalf of the Stiles family.
After enduring a long, hard road of physical suffering, Rachael passed peacefully in her sleep on Thursday morning, August 12th. There will be a memorial service, prayer walk, and luncheon in her honor on August 28th. (Check this page for the details which will be posted here by Thursday the 19th.)
Rachael suffered from chronic illness for years, including skin sores that ate away at the flesh on her torso. Rachael, and her husband, Brett, a firefighter for the city of Detroit, had to move out of their Detroit home in 2016 when it was discovered that black mold was contributing to her illness. In early 2021, Rachael was also diagnosed with cancer.
Rachael worked with an oncologist and hematologist for the blood loss through her open wounds, as well as the Cleveland Clinic. Rachael underwent several treatments to shrink tumors and kill cancer - none of which were covered by insurance. These treatments included a costly cream to shrink tumors and a drug that targets cancer cells. Because Rachael suffered from multiple infections along with the cancer, ther treatment options were complicated and most often not covered by insurance. Brett is now left with many medical bills and funeral expenses, along with the cost of relocating and providing care for their two daughters Arwen (age 16) and Eden (age 10).
As you can imagine, this long journey has been immensely difficult for the entire family. We so appreciate any act of generosity and investment of love toward the Stiles family, and we firmly believe that God will multiply your generosity back to you. Thank you for your support. It’s such a comfort to know that Brett and the girls are not fighting alone.
