Rach & Soph Take BK!

Donation protected
While we are not avid runners, we are attempting the nearly impossible and running our little hearts out for 13.1 miles during the Brooklyn Half Marathon on May 20th! We have decided to run for different causes that are near and dear to our hearts. That being said, we would greatly appreciate if you would donate to our collective fundraising effort, which we will then divide in half and distribute evenly to our two charities of choice! That way, your donation will do double the good :-) and if we happen to raise $10k, we MAY just have to pull out those elephant handler outfits for actual race day...

Please see below for our individual stories:

When Sophia first asked me to sign up for the Brooklyn Half, my initial reaction was "you must be out of your damn mind, woman." I have, and maybe always will (TBD), hate running--and I am not afraid to tell that to anyone who will listen! So when I reluctantly accepted the challenge, my first thought was that I absolutely had to put my torturous training to good use--I had to fundraise for a cause that means the world to me.
On May 20th, I will be running on behalf of my extremely brave Uncle Barry, who has been battling Parkinson's disease for the last 30+ years. I have watched my uncle and his amazing wife, my Aunt Elizabeth, attempt to manage all of the curve balls that this horrific disease has thrown at them over the years with unmatched grace and optimism. I would love nothing more than to contribute to a foundation that hopes to eventually rid future families from having to endure such hardship and pain. Thus, I will contribute my half of the donations collected via this page to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. For more information, please visit: Michael J. Fox Foundation website

Running a half-marathon has been on my bucket list for years, but it's something I haven't had the courage (or leg strength) to do until I decided that there's no time like the present. So when it came time for Rachel and I to start talking causes that we wanted to run for, I decided that I should look to an organization that values no time like the present and dedicates itself to bringing information, treatment and joy to those who need it most in the present day.

Therefore, on May 20th I will be running for pediatric cancer. Half of the donations raised here will be donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. While I feel very fortunate/blessed to not know a child affected by cancer, I am very aware that it is a disease that takes the lives of far too many children far too soon; it is a cause that I find myself very moved by from afar. Additionally, St Jude Children's Research Hospital does have a family tie, as it was my grandmother's last wishes to have donations sent there in wake of her passing in 2009.
