I'm running my 6th marathon to honor Daniel and his family's courageous fight against malignant mesothelioma. Please help me raise money to help this amazing family as they embark on this journey.
Life can change in an instant and for the Shomate family, it certainly did on January 26, 2015. He went in for a fairly routine umbilical hernia surgery and came out with a diagnosis of mesothelioma. It turns out that he has a rare form of malignant mesothelioma that only affects 200 people annually in the US. Daniel's lifespan would be 3-4 months if he chose not to have treatment, but could be extended to 8-10 months with aggressive chemotherapy. So Daniel is going for it and he and his family are fighting with everything they have to beat this disease.
I thought, 'what can i do to help them?' He is a wonderful co-worker and friend and always makes me laugh with stories about his wonderful wife Rachel and young boys (Lucas Thomas, three years old and Reed Maddox, 15 months). He helped me through the early stages of parenthood with my almost-one-year-old with his funny advice and personal experiences.
So I decided that my next marathon on March 22 in Wrightsville Beach would be the most meaningful one yet. I would run for Daniel and his family and raise at least $2620 to help them with all their unexpected medical and life expenses. It's the least I can do and a small way I can show Daniel and his family how loved they are. I hope you'll click on this link http://www.gofundme.com/shomate

Donate whatever you can...I'm working on obtaining some great prizes for various donation levels so stay tuned for more. I'll post updates on my training and Daniel's status here as well so visit often. Please share with your friends and family too!!!
