Race & Identity Textbooks for Maine Schools
Donation protected
I will be co-facilitating a workshop with Iris Eichenlaub for Maine English teachers to share the importance of making space in our classes for race, culture, and identity work. Because Maine is a predominantly white state (94.64%), it is crucial that we use reading, writing, and discussing as a way to expose our students to the identities of marginalized groups, developing both critical thinking and empathy. Winona Guo and Priya Vulchi have created a book that is perfect for this--Tell Me Who You Are: Sharing Stories of Race, Culture, and Identity. Link to more about the book: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/602186/tell-me-who-you-are-by-winona-guo-and-priya-vulchi/
Our wish is to be able to give a copy of this book to each workshop participant, teachers who will be able to take it back to their classrooms and use as a catalyst for students to develop a better understanding of race and identity.
Please consider donating funds to get this book into English classrooms throughout the state. A $20 donation will pay for 1 book donation.
Thank you so much!
