Race Across the World for Stray Cats! - London to Algeria

Hello everyone!

On June 1st, 2025, my brother and I are taking on our biggest challenge yet: traveling from Croydon, London, to Bordj Bou Arreridj, Algeria (where our grandfather is buried)—with just £700 between us! That’s £350 each (the cost of a plane ticket!), entirely self-funded, to cross thousands of kilometers, navigate multiple countries, and make it over the Mediterranean in just 15 days. ⏳

It’s going to be rough—expect lost directions, aching feet, and at least a few dramatic meltdowns. But we’re doing this for a cause close to our hearts: helping the stray cats of Algeria.

We’ll be documenting everything on TikTok—so if you want to follow along (or just watch two directionally challenged people trying to make it across countries without ending up on a completely different continent), stay tuned!

Why This Challenge?

We could have done a bake sale or run a marathon… but where’s the fun in that? We wanted to do something big—something that would capture people’s attention, push us to our limits, and inspire as much generosity as possible.

So, instead of just asking for donations, we’re making it a challenge:

Relying on the kindness of strangers

Surviving on a shoestring budget

Why this means so much to us?

Our grandfather—a man with a heart as big as his love for cats ‍—is the reason AJR exists. I have included a picture of him with a cat that he saved, even in old age- he always made sure to look after animals. He once cared for 24 rescued cats, never turning away an animal in need, and his kindness inspired us to carry on his legacy. This journey is a form of sadaqah in his name, and we want to raise as much as possible to support AJR’s work in helping stray cats get food, safety, and veterinary care. ❤️

What is AJR Charity?

AJR is an Islamic concept, it stands for "abundance and rewards for good deeds," and that’s exactly what we aim to create. This charity was founded by our amazing mum, a lifelong animal lover, and it’s also a form of Sadaqah (a charitable act) for our beloved grandfather.

We’ve already set up feeding stations, provided vet care, and rescued several cats. But we want to do more—expand our work, reach more animals, and ensure that no stray cat in Algeria goes hungry or suffers unnecessarily. To do that, we need your support.
