APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE TO LAY OUR BELOVED NANCY TO REST

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Nancy , beloved wife to Benson and devoted mother of three children, the youngest being only 7 years old. The family resides in Kangema Constituency, Murang’a County, Kenya where they depend on small-scale farming for livelihood.

Nancy’s health challenges began in September 2024, when she started experiencing persistent, severe headaches. Despite self-medicating, her condition worsened, and by March 2025, she began losing vision in her left eye. At Murang’a Level 5 Hospital, a neurosurgeon referred her to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital for an MRI scan, which revealed a brain tumor. Unfortunately, the earliest available surgery date was eight months away.

As her pain became unbearable, she sought further help. At Radiant Hospital in Nairobi, surgery was possible but financially out of reach. Othaya Level 5 Hospital also lacked the necessary equipment. Meanwhile, her condition deteriorated rapidly, and she began experiencing epileptic seizures. She was placed on medication by her doctor at Murang’a Level 5, who stressed the urgency of immediate surgery to avoid the risk of stroke.

In desperation, the family turned to Kenyatta National Hospital, but due to lack of space in the public wing, Nancy could not secure a bed. The only option was the private wing, where they consulted with Dr. Susan, who directed them to Coptic Hospital, as it was more affordable than other private facilities. Nancy was admitted on June 16th, 2025, and underwent surgery the following day. Sadly, complications arose, requiring a second operation. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, Nancy’s condition declined over the next 21 days, and she painfully succumbed.

Her passing left the family not only heartbroken but also burdened with a medical bill of Ksh 2.8 million ($22,000) at Coptic Hospital. To make matters worse, Nancy’s body has remained at the hospital mortuary for nearly three months, with a daily fee of Ksh 900 ($7) accumulating, as the family struggles to raise funds.

The family is already financially drained, having cared for two other relatives with cancer last year—one who underwent multiple surgeries from 2019 until his passing in September 2024, and another still undergoing lung cancer treatment at KNH. These circumstances have left the family without the means to settle Nancy’s bill and give her a dignified send-off.

We humbly and urgently appeal to your kind support to help us clear Nancy’s hospital and mortuary bills, so that her children and husband may finally find closure and lay her to rest with dignity.
