Around January 10th my 2 year old niece Mila got sick and was taken to the hospital for dehydration as she couldn’t keep any food or water down for days. They did a CT and could not find anything wrong. They started a feeding tube and started her at 5mL an hour of formula as that’s all she could handle. There were times where Mila would throw up and the feeding tube would come out. They would wait 1-2 days and reinsert the feeding tube. This went on for over a week and the doctor said she could not sustain life at 5mL of formula an hour and her organs would start shutting down if she didn’t get the nutrients her body needed. They crossed their fingers and increased her feeding to 45mL. She was still getting sick and the doctors said something neurologically was not right. On January 26 they did a MRI and found a tumor that was 4x5cm and lots of fluid on Mila’s brain. They did a biopsy and put a drain in to get the fluid off the brain. Mila was put on a ventilator during all of this and was taken off the ventilator in February 1. January 31 they did the first brain surgery and got 60% of the tumor. The pathology for the tumor should be back at the end of February. Mila will need another surgery in the future along with hormone replacements for the rest of her life. Mila’s medical expenses will add up quickly as she will go in for continuous MRIs to monitor the tumor. My sister’s husband has also missed work as he hasn’t left Mila’s side. My sister is a stay at home mom of 4 beautiful children. Please keep the prayers coming and I will post updates as they come in.
