Hospice & Funeral Costs - Don Shields

As I write this, my uncle Don is slowly taking his last few breaths on earth. He was diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer in September with metastasis to his lungs and liver. He knew that he didn't have much time left - and the only thing he feared was leaving his family behind and the financial burden he would leave once he was gone. We all thought he might have a little more time, but sadly - things slowly took a turn for the worse. He is currently being cared for by hospice (while inpatient at Baylor Grapevine) and is surrounded by his loving wife Sharon, his children and grandchildren.

Despite the VA paying for some of Don's funeral expenses, it does not pay for everything. It also does not pay for anything upfront. My heart goes out to my aunt, as Don was the love of her life. They have been married for over 50 years. It is my hope that we can help ease at least the financial burden with this fundraiser, so she can focus not only on her own grief, but the grief of her children and grandchildren.
