Help Weslee and Family with Medical Expenses
Donation protected
My son, Weslee, is a 28-year-old (going on age 12) autistic person with intractable epilepsy. In 2011, he had his first grand mal (tonic clonic) seizure. Since 2013, Weslee has had over 12 brain and other seizure-related surgeries (including a VNS implant), and none of these actually took care of his seizures. Some side effects from the surgeries include: partial blindness, swiss cheese memory, walks with a cane, stroke (from a SEEG in 2019) and more.
In August/September of 2024, Weslee spent nearly a week in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at the Cleveland Clinic (C.C.). Their tests and the constant EEG recorded quite a lot of seizure activity, and weird-looking seizures. The C.C. team discussed the data, and suggested another SEEG (Stereoelectroencephalography), which could better pinpoint where the seizure/misfiring electrical activity is. Once done, we should have a better idea of what the next step should be.
I am his mom, and have my own health issues, from a confusing blood problem, degenerating spine, migraines, fibromyalgia, to a plethora of other problems.
Between my health and needing to keep a close eye on my son (I have literally caught him falling down stairs), we don't have much of an income. My rusted-out mini van is 20 years old and broke down on the way home from the Cleveland Clinic (we live in Kentucky).
We are asking for your help because we need to:
..replace the van
..pay for 3-12 trips to the C.C.
..gas, hotel, food, copays
..pay on long-ignored medical bills
..replace Weslee's broken bed
