Hi, my name’s Ian Escandor (but most people call me Esky), and I’m an artist, youth worker, and storyteller from Western Sydney. Together with my talented friend and filmmaker, Reggie Azwar, we’re creating a documentary called In Search of the White Deer — a project that means the world to us and our community.

In Search of the White Deer is a real story about a real mystery.

For years, people around our neighbourhood have spoken about sightings of a rare white deer — an almost mythical figure that’s captured the imagination of so many. This film isn’t just about the deer; it’s about community, memory, and the magic of shared stories. It’s about the wonder that still exists in the places we call home, even when life gets heavy.

We’re filming heartfelt interviews, beautiful reenactments, and blending documentary and storytelling in a way that feels true to the spirit of our area. This project is deeply personal: it’s our love letter to where we’re from, and the power of local myths to bring people together.

We’re raising funds to help cover:

• Equipment hire and upgrades (better cameras, audio, lighting)

• Production costs (travel, location permits, costumes)

• Post-production (editing, sound design, colour grading)

• Community screenings (we want to premiere this locally, free for the community)
