A Journey to Parenthood

1 in 8. 1 in 8 couples struggle with infertility. We may have all heard that statistic at one point, but it sits a lot different when you or someone you love is a part of that group. While infertility can at times be a lonely and difficult venture, it allows us as friends, family and community members to lift up those we love in support. Today I’m hoping we can lift up the Kings.

I have worked with AJ and Brandon for the last 3 years, and we have gotten to be great friends. We all work for a Setting 4 public school working with students who struggle with behavioral and emotional needs; AJ is a social worker and Brandon is a gym teacher. These are difficult jobs that are met with unique challenges every day, but AJ and Brandon handle their tasks with compassion and grace. I am fortunate to work with two people who demonstrate such incredible talent and generosity, and make their jobs seem effortless to anyone who may be watching. They celebrate even the small wins, and the relationships they develop with their students are an invaluable gift – to the students and to them.

AJ and Brandon make an amazing team and couple, and will make wonderful parents. It is hard to think about one of them without thinking about the other because they share such similar values, interests, goals, and a commitment to seek and promote goodness in this world. They have a deep appreciation for the love and joy within their families, and are excited to start a family of their own. Such an exciting time – but life has thrown some obstacles in their way. Fortunately this is a strong couple that can meet a challenge head-on, and there are options as they begin their fertility journey. AJ and Brandon will undergo fertility treatments and proceed with IVF. Unfortunately this is an expensive process that can also be cost-prohibitive. If you have witnessed this couple’s devotion to each other, love for their families, passion for their work, and overall kindness, I’m confident you will want to help them achieve their dream to become parents.
