I was talking with my neighbor Miguel and he told me about his daughter who lives in San Pedro Soloma municipality in Guatemala. He started by telling me that earlier this year his daughter's house had burned down. In the early hours of January 1, they heard a loud explosion. The small town was celebrating the new year and a firework exploded on the house and started a fire. The village organized a bucket brigade but it was not enough to save the home. It was a complete loss. They all got out of the house safely but lost all of their belongings. They are now living in a small single room at their in-law's house.
The fire was extremely tragic but that was not the end of his story. Here is a little detail on their family situation. His daughter's name is Ofelia Diaz Morales. She is 24 years old and is married with two children. She suffers from a kidney ailment and is in constant pain and in need of surgery. She requires expensive medication and the cost of her surgery is $25,000. She is a nurse at the local hospital but unable to work due to her illness. Her husband, Ridley Josue Gonzalez Gonzalez is 27 years old, has been out of work for a little more than a year due to lack of job opportunities in their small village. He is a school teacher. Her children, Nayara Yamilet Gonzalez Diaz is7 years old and her son Bradley Josue Gonsalez Diaz, JR. is 4 years old. He suffers from a lung ailment and severe allergies that cause his skin to break out in blisters. This requires medications and special salves and soaps.
Through all of these trials and tribulations, their Christian faith remains strong.
My goal is to try and reach the $25,000 amount to pay for Ofelia's kidney surgery to start. If this goal is reached I will begin a second campaign to replace their home and belongings. I hope you can help.
