Tennessee Crew New 8+ Fund

Tennessee Crew is planning on purchasing a new midweight 8+ for use by the women and lighter men through the efforts of our proud team alumni. The team's newest midweight sized 8+ (shown above) recently passed 20 years of age. The 1st Lt. Andy Stern is a wonderful boat with many medals to its name, but it is time for it to be retired from varsity use.
We would like to name this boat in honor of the alumni class which donates the most to the fundraiser. For example, if the largest single graduation year with the most donations is 1998, the boat's name will be "Spirit of '98", or something similar. Please post your graduation year as part of your donation message!
Donors will have the opportunity to have the nine seats in the boat (bow through stroke plus the coxswain seat) named after the person of their choice if they donate more than $1500.
Donations may also be made by check. Checks MUST be made out to "Rowing Club @ UT" to be cashed by the University. Checks may be sent to:

Alabama Crew ran a similar go fund me for an 8+ and only raised around $3500, let's see what the Vols can do!

The 8+ we are most likely to purchase is a Vespoli DM8+, which retails for $36,300. Extras such as bags for the boat and riggers, slings, and transport bring the total closer to $39,000. While we are currently looking into purchasing a new shell, it is possible that to maximize raised funds we might end up buying a slightly used shell (<3 years old) if a good deal presenets itself. If that is the case, the remaining raised funds would be used for ergs and other necessary equipment.
If our goal is not met in a reasonable timeframe to purchase an 8+ by Fall season 2016, we will use the funds collected, in addition to funds from member dues, to purchase as new a boat as possible with what has been raised.
