No One Fights Alone- Fight 4 Amanda

Please meet Amanda Vickers. She and her husband Jason, a local business owner, have been married since 2004 and are the proud parents of two adorable kids, Emma and Jacob.

In 2014, Amanda began feeling unwell on a regular basis.  She was in and out of doctors’ offices throughout the year, but was told nothing could be found.  In February of 2015, Amanda woke one morning feeling very ill and decided to stay home to rest.  Jason left that morning as normal to take the kids to school. Amanda decided to take a bath later that morning, in hopes of relaxing and helping her feel better.  Amanda was found in the tub later that day, unresponsive and bleeding.  Amanda was rushed to the hospital, where it was later determined that she had gone through at least one, if not more, seizures that were caused by a large mass in her brain. The bleeding was due to her severely biting her tongue during the seizure(s).

Once tests were completed, Amanda was hospitalized and scheduled for surgery to remove the tumor found on her brain.   Amanda’s surgery did take place, but the doctors were only able to remove approximately 95% of the tumor, as the other 5% is in a “no touch” area of the brain.  The tumor was biopsied and found to be a mix of both benign and malignant cells.  During the surgery, Amanda suffered a severe stroke, which has left her with total paralysis on the entire left side of her body. The paralysis also left her with a total loss of vision in her left eye.

Amanda was placed in a rehabilitation center where she worked to regain some of the functions on her left side through rigorous physical, speech, and occupational therapy.  Amanda recently began both radiation and chemotherapy treatments, which the doctors hope will reduce the size of the tumor that is left in her brain.  Amanda has regained some abilities on her left side.  She can now eat and drink normal foods and has regained some vision in her left eye.  She is able to walk with the assistance of a special walker/cane and is still working to regain movement in her left arm.  Amanda was released from rehabilitation on Friday but requires 24 hour care at home and will for an unknown amount of time.

Jason owns his own small business in Monticello, FL and has missed many hours of work to be by Amanda’s side, as well as to care for Emma and Jacob. With Amanda out of work and her return uncertain, Jason and Amanda are already struggling financially. Additionally, they are having a challenging time with the insurance company assisting with Amanda’s needs.  It has been a long several months for the Vickers’ Family and they still have a very long, very expensive way to go.

Amanda and Jason are two of the most generous and kind people I have ever met. Please consider helping this amazing family by donating, sharing, or both. All donations will not only go towards medical bills, but will also help equip the Vickers’ home with any renovations needed to accommodate Amanda.  Thank you all in advance and please keep the love, positivity, and prayers flowing!

And remember - NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE!  Fight for Amanda!!!
