Sweet Cassie needs your help!
Hello dear friends of Cassie's,
My name is Mika. For the last 15 years I have been lucky enough to have Cassie's friendship in my life. We met as young 20 something year olds, fresh transplants to NYC. Throughout the ongoing years, I have come to find Cassie as not only one my closest friends that I can count on, but as a sister that I care for deeply.
As many of you may already know, Cassie injured herself while rock climbing last month (I mean, to be fair, how bad ass is that?!).
What was first reported by her doctors as a partial ligament tear, after further inspection, turns out it is actually a broken tibia. She had been out of work for a month under the assumption her ankle would need 4-5 weeks of rest. However, since the latest diagnosis of her injury, the quote of recovery states that she won't be able to be active for 3-4 months. That's a long time without reliable income!
Cassie's work is one that depends on her mobility and bodily able-ness. Anyone who has worked in the service industry knows that any time a singular part of your body doesn't perform the way it should, your livelihood is at stake. Though she plans on looking for remote work during her time of healing, we all are too aware that the job market is rough out there. Her financial responsibilities are looming over her as she tries to figure out what she needs to do to keep her current life intact.
For transparency, the money you give for support will help pay for the following during her recovery:
- Rent. Not being able to work and having to pay rent is scary. She currently is living alone (solo income) and rent in LA is expensive!
- Utilities, Internet, and Phone
- Car Insurance and Gas
- Food
- Mobility supplies and support as needed
- Unexpected medical expenses (She thankfully does have health insurance, but as you know in the US these things come up). So far, she's had 1 ER visit, 2 visits with her primary doctor, 1 MRI, and 1 orthopedic surgeon visit. She is expected to have another X RAY, two to three visits with her orthopedic surgeon, two to three visits with her primary doctor, and multiple sessions of physical therapy (both before they remove the boot and after the initial recovery period).
Now, if you know Cassie, you know she would never ask for help like this unless she really was in a position of need. Additionally, if you know Cassie, I am pretty sure she's helped you out once or twice in your friendship - however that help looked like for you. She is a giving, loving, caring, person that wants to know her friends are always doing well.
I understand these are hard times for a lot of people and money is not the easiest thing to give. Just know all forms of help are welcome, and that could mean leads for remote work, a phone call, a catch up visit to her, or sharing this on social media - so many acts of care can positively add to her spirits and her day to day recovery life.
With love and gratitude,
Mika
