Support Devon and Kenny Hayes and their Family

The Hayes family needs your support, thoughts and prayers, once again.

June 16th Devon was diagnosed with kidney cancer after she was admitted to the ER for what they thought was appendicitis. The CT scan showed a 4 inch tumor on her right kidney. They’re still waiting on the results to see if the cancer has spread and what stage it is in. As of now, surgery is scheduled for July 18th as long as it hasn’t spread.

Here’s where they need more support, thoughts and prayers. A few months ago, Kass was diagnosed with Chiari malformation, which is where brain tissue extends into the spinal canal. It occurs when part of the skull is misshapen or smaller than is typical. The skull presses on the brain and forces it downward. Eventually he will need surgery to correct this but at the time, it wasn’t required.

Kass was admitted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital June 28th with bulging fontanel and a spiked fever. The bulging fontanel was due to the chiari and an infection that got into his body. They are still waiting on the results for the infection but the hosptial believes is could be meningitis. In order to relieve the excess cerebral spinal fluid, a neurosurgeon had to place a tube in Kass’s skull to drain the fluid and alleviate the pressure and headaches.

Kass will be in the hosptial at least 5 days and up to a few weeks. Devon’s job has been fantastic with her taking time away for her cancer and for Kass but the next month she will be away quite a bit for Kass and for appointments and her own surgery. Kenny trains kids and teams in basketball and due to everything going on, he’s unable to get anytime to train at the moment.

Both Kenny and Devon do not like asking for help but the next month is going to be tough on them emotionally, mentally, physically and financially.
