Friends, one of our own at King of Kings is in a heart-wrenching time of grief and loss. For those of you who haven't had the opportunity to meet her, Mary Guffey is one of our caregivers in the 0-3 room downstairs in the Children's Ministry, and she has cared for our children every weekend with love for over 6 years.
Mary's older daughter, Savannah, is nearing the end of her life after complications with pneumonia, the flu, and other medical concerns, and Mary and her family have had to make some desperately hard decisions. As they keep vigil with their child in what are likely to be her last hours, they are having to consider the financial impact on their family of not only the medical expenses associated with Savannah's care but also 1) the money they are foregoing by staying at the hospital with her rather than working, and 2) the eventual funeral costs, should this be Savannah's time to go Home.
I am hoping to be able to provide some relief to Mary and her family in their time of grieving by lightening the financial impact on their family as best we can, as a church. Again, should Savannah's health rally, this fund would go toward paying off the medical expenses of her stay in the hospital, so the need for these donations is not predicated upon how this story ends in the next few days.
With warm gratitude for the love and support we share as a community through God's generosity and grace to us,
Ellen McNeill (Director of Children's Ministries)
