Help Sarah Pay Medical Bills

In January of 2021, Sarah began having some issues breathing. Things like walking up stairs became very strenuous on her lungs and her heart would beat very fast as a result. We took her to the Urgent Care and she was given a vague diagnosis of enflamed lungs with no formal testing. She took an anti inflammatory, but the problem just got worse. A week later we took her back to the Urgent Care to have a chest x-ray done. They found a significant amount of fluid in her lung and rushed her to Presbyterian Allen Hospital nearby. They performed an emergency chest tube (plural effusion) procedure. She spent the next six days admitted at the hospital, where they did extensive testing such as CT scans, chest x-rays, blood work, sonograms, etc. They finally concluded enough from all of the testing that it was unfortunately Ovarian cancer. The cancer had spread within her abdomen and resulted in unhealthy fluids in her lungs.
Sarah was discharged from Presbyterian Allen and spent the next three days at home while her and her loved ones devised a plan for the course of treatment. Sarah's loved ones and myself decided to take her to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas to receive further testing and treatment there. Parkland confirmed and diagnosed her with Stage 4A Ovarian Cancer.
After a few more days of testing and analyzing, the doctors decided their course of action. Their original goal was to perform a surgery that would remove all of the tumors within her abdomen. The doctors wanted a full removal of the cancer. They attempted the surgery on Friday 2/6/2021. Due to the location of the tumors, the surgery would have been very radical and wouldn't have fully removed all of the cancer. The doctor did emphasize that it was the location of the tumors rather than the size of them that was concerning. The surgery was not successful in the sense that they could not remove any tumor, only a little bit for a biopsy for further testing. They essentially closed her back up.
Over the next few days, Sarah recovered from her surgery in the hospital. The wonderful team of oncology doctors at Parkland Hospital rerouted their course of treatment at this point. They decided to start her immediately on chemotherapy treatment, with the goal to shrink the cancer enough, where at a later date they will be able to attempt the surgery again hoping for a full removal of the cancer.
Sarah had her first round of chemotherapy on Wednesday 02/10/2021 while she was still in the hospital at Parkland. Sarah was discharged the following day and has been at home since. Sarah will need 3-5 more rounds of chemotherapy before they attempt the surgery again.
That is the summarized version up until this point of what has been going on with Sarah medically.
During the midst of all Sarah's hospital stays I proposed to her to be my wife. What a blessed man I am, because she said yes. I had already planned on proposing sometime early 2021, I just hadn't really thought it through. Given the circumstances, God put me in a position where it did not matter what cute idea's I had imagined in my head on how a proposal would go, but rather it was a test of my love and faith to do this now. I wanted her to know how much support she has and that I am willing to go to any lengths by her side both physically and emotionally through her recovery process.
Sarah and myself are beginning a life together. We are getting married tomorrow, 02/21/2021.
For those who do not know Sarah let me try to explain my perspective of her. One of the things that immediately drew me close to Sarah was her selflessness. She will drop whatever she is doing at that moment to cater to a loved one or peer's needs. She is very educated. She has a degree in Civil Engineering and is currently pursuing a second degree in Construction Management. She is goal-driven and quite literally the hardest worker I have ever met. My instincts knew from very quickly after we had met, that she would be the one. We have been together romantically for over a year and a half, but I can assure you that time is no valid measurement from what I have learned from Sarah. Sarah is very family oriented and her biggest goal in life is to raise children and have a happy family.
The biggest struggles for Sarah right now are:
1. Finances (Medical Bills)
2. Not being able to see her mother and father who live in Brazil and are currently unable to be with their sick daughter due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.
3. Dealing with the strong likelihood that she will never be able to birth her own blood children.
These are in no specific order. I am writing this for her and these are simply things that I have observed.
As of right now Sarah is here under F1 Student Visa from Brazil and can not legally work. She also does not have health insurance. We are getting her health insurance, but it will not be approved for 6 more months.
Each chemotherapy treatment will cost her $1,500. She needs anywhere from 3-5 more rounds of chemotherapy. This would cost another $4,500 to $7,500.
Her medical bills from both Presbyterian Allen Hospital and Parkland Hospital totaled over $80,000. We are still receiving bills in the mail on daily basis, so this will likely go up as well.
With Sarah and I getting married tomorrow, we did not set up a registry anywhere. If anyone who sees this Go Fund Me was planning on getting us a wedding gift, don't. Please just donate whatever you can to help us afford to pay her medical bills. If you can not afford to donate anything that is okay. Please share this to your social medias and spread this Go Fund Me around to receive some recognition.
The chemotherapy treatment expenses are the first priority as we can make payment plans towards the hospital stays.
To everyone who knows Sarah, thank you for all of your kind words and support. We are overwhelmed (in a good way) with emotional support. The people who have offered help have been very genuine and honest with their words. We are incredibly grateful and appreciative of you . You all know how much of a Saint that Sarah is. If this was happening to you, she would be right there by your side with her love asking how she could help.
To those of you who don't know Sarah, I am sorry. We hope that you can one day meet the incredible human being that she is. Please take my word for it that she is the best thing that has ever happened to me. We are looking at this as a stepping stone that God has put into our lives. UPDATE : 3/30/21
Sarah has received 3 Chemotherapy treatments so far. Prior to her first treatment her CA-125 levels were around 650. After her first treatment they were down to 357. After the second treatment they were down to 241. This is VERY good news! The chemo has been very effective so far, and the cancer is shrinking.
The next time she goes in for chemo is 4/12/2021. Before this Sarah will have a CAT scan done to see what has changed. Hopefully the doctors can perform the surgery sometime in late April/early May to remove the rest of the tumors.
Sarah and I have been happily married for over a month now. I have gone back to work part time because she has been pretty low maintenance and hope to start full time again very soon. Sarah has been eating everything in her path! I say that with great joy considering I know how chemo can affect someone’s appetite. Probably the best thing for Sarah is that her mother was able to receive a temporary visa and arrived here from Brazil yesterday! We are so happy to have her here with us.

Em janeiro de 2021, Sarah começou a ter alguns problemas para respirar. Coisas como subir escadas tornaram-se muito cansativas para seus pulmões e, como resultado, seu coração batia muito rápido. Nós a levamos para o Pronto-Socorro e ela recebeu um diagnóstico vago de pulmões inflamados, sem nenhum teste formal. Ela tomou um anti-inflamatório, mas o problema só piorou. Uma semana depois, nós a levamos ela de volta ao Pronto Atendimento para fazer uma radiografia de tórax. Eles encontraram uma quantidade significativa de fluido em seu pulmão e a levaram às pressas para o Hospital Presbiteriano em Allen. Eles realizaram um procedimento de drenagem torácica de emergência (derrame plural). Ela passou os próximos seis dias internada no hospital, onde fizeram testes extensivos, como tomografias computadorizadas, radiografias de tórax, exames de sangue, ultrassons, etc. Eles finalmente concluíram que baseado nos testes, infelizmente, era câncer de ovário. O câncer se espalhou em seu abdômen e resultou em fluidos prejudiciais à saúde em seus pulmões.
Sarah recebeu alta do Hospital Presbiteriano de Allen e passou os três dias seguintes em casa enquanto ela e seus entes queridos elaboravam um plano para o tratamento. Os entes queridos de Sarah e eu decidimos levá-la ao Hospital Parkland em Dallas, Texas, para receber mais testes e tratamento lá. Parkland confirmou e a diagnosticou com câncer de ovário em estágio 4A.
Depois de mais alguns dias de testes e análises, os médicos decidiram seu curso de ação. Seu objetivo original era realizar uma cirurgia que removeria todos os tumores de seu abdômen. Os médicos queriam uma remoção completa do câncer. Eles tentaram a cirurgia na sexta-feira 06/02/2021. Devido à localização dos tumores, a cirurgia teria sido muito radical e não teria removido totalmente o câncer. O médico enfatizou que o preocupante era a localização dos tumores, e não o tamanho deles. A cirurgia não foi bem-sucedida no sentido de que não foi possível remover nenhum tumor, apenas um pouco para uma biópsia para novos exames. Eles essencialmente fecharam ela.
Nos dias seguintes, Sarah se recuperou de sua cirurgia no hospital. A maravilhosa equipe de médicos oncológicos do Hospital Parkland redirecionou seu curso de tratamento neste ponto. Eles decidiram iniciá-la imediatamente o tratamento quimioterápico, com o objetivo de reduzir o câncer o suficiente, onde mais tarde poderão tentar a cirurgia novamente na esperança de uma remoção completa do câncer.
Sarah fez sua primeira rodada de quimioterapia na quarta-feira 10/02/2021, enquanto ela ainda estava no hospital Parkland. Sarah teve alta no dia seguinte e está em casa desde então. Sarah precisará de mais 3 a 5 rodadas de quimioterapia antes de tentar a cirurgia novamente.
Essa é a versão resumida até este ponto do que está acontecendo com Sarah em termos médicos.
Durante toda a internação da Sarah no hospital, propus a ela ser minha esposa. Que homem abençoado eu sou, porque ela disse que sim. Eu já tinha planejado propor algo no início de 2021, só não tinha realmente pensado nisso. Dadas as circunstâncias, Deus me colocou em uma posição em que não importava que ideias fofas eu tivesse imaginado na minha cabeça sobre como uma proposta seria, mas sim um teste do meu amor e fé em o fazê-lo agora. Eu queria que ela soubesse o quanto apoio ela tem e que estou disposto a fazer qualquer coisa ao seu lado, tanto física, quanto emocionalmente, durante seu processo de recuperação.
Sarah e eu estamos começando uma vida juntos. Nos casamos amanhã, 21/02/2021.
Para quem não conhece Sarah, deixe-me tentar explicar minha perspectiva sobre ela. Uma das coisas que imediatamente me aproximou de Sarah foi sua abnegação. Ela abandonará tudo o que estiver fazendo naquele momento para atender às necessidades de um ente querido ou parceiro. Ela é muito educada. É formada em Engenharia Civil e atualmente cursa uma graduação secundaria em Gestão de Obras. Ela é movida a objetivos e literalmente a trabalhadora mais esforçada que já conheci. Meus instintos souberam muito rapidamente depois que nos conhecemos, que ela seria a única. Estamos juntos romanticamente há mais de um ano e meio, mas posso garantir que o tempo não é uma medida válida pelo que aprendi com Sarah. Sarah é muito voltada para a família e seu maior objetivo na vida é criar filhos e ter uma família feliz.
As maiores lutas de Sarah agora são:
1. Finanças (contas médicas)
2. Não poder ver sua mãe e seu pai que moram no Brasil e atualmente não podem estar com sua filha doente devido às restrições de viagem da Covid-19.
3. Lidar com a grande probabilidade de ela nunca conseguir dar à luz seus próprios filhos de sangue.
Estes não estão em uma ordem específica. Estou escrevendo isso para ela e essas são simplesmente coisas que observei.
No momento, Sarah está aqui sob o visto de estudante F1 do Brasil e não pode trabalhar legalmente. Ela também não tem seguro de saúde. Estamos conseguindo seu seguro saúde, mas não será aprovado por mais 6 meses.
Cada tratamento de quimioterapia custará US $ 1.500. Ela precisa de mais 3 a 5 rodadas de quimioterapia. Isso custaria outros $ 4.500 a $ 7.500.
Suas contas médicas tanto do Hospital Presbiteriano de Allen quanto do Parkland totalizaram mais de US $ 80.000. Ainda estamos recebendo contas pelo correio diariamente, então isso provavelmente aumentará também.
