Meadowmount 2015

Donation protected
Hello All!
My name is Denielle Wilson and I am an aspiring musician from Lithonia, Georgia. I am currently a sophomore at Northwestern University studying cello performance. I have been accepted to study at the Meadowmount School of Music for a third time, and to be able to attend, I will need your help.

What is Meadowmount?
"Founded in 1944 by Ivan Galamian, the Meadowmount School of Music, located in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, offers exceptional string players and pianists a seven-week-long intensive program of private study and chamber music coaching with our dedicated and internationally recognized faculty. Performance opportunities include weekly masterclasses with the Meadowmount faculty, masterclasses with visiting artists, and concerts both on and off campus. The list of distinguished alumni who have spent summers at Meadowmount over the years is extensive, and many artists such as Michael Rabin, Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, Jamie Laredo, Kyung Wha Chung, Arnold Steinhardt, Joshua Bell, James Ehnes, Lynn Harrell and Yo-Yo Ma went on to establish international careers.Through the guidance of the teaching and coaching staff, students can accomplish at Meadowmount in a summer what would ordinarily take a year to accomplish at home.”

Why Meadowmount 2015 is important to me
There have been few distinct points in my life so far that have inspired me to pursue a career in music, but one of the main ones was my time at Meadowmount. I started taking music lessons when I was four, and for a while, I believed playing an instrument was just something to do, or a way for my parents to keep me occupied. When I attended Meadowmount and witnessed other young people around my age who were playing not only at a high level, but with such contagious passion, my eyes were opened to the possibilities and blessings of music presented at one’s best. During this summer there will be a lot of time for individual practice, but it will also be motivational to learn with other young people who are very driven. Next school year, I plan on participating in more competitions, and it will be very helpful to have more time with my teacher to help prepare for them.

How You Can Help
The total cost for attending Meadowmount is $6,700. I was offered a $3,000. After the down payment my parents were able to make, I still owe $2,800. I’ve made raising $3,000 my goal to cover that amount, as well as help with plane tickets for me and my cello. I know that I only have about two months, but I believe God still works miracles, and I have faith in you who have supported me and my family in our musical endeavors over the years.

Usually, my siblings and I would present a yearly concert, and it was at that time that we would raise funds to help send us to a summer music program. Now that I am away for school, those concerts have not been as consistent throughout the year, so I am using this alternative method for receiving support. However, as a family, we have agreed to offer recordings, private concerts, or performances at your church or community center as an incentive for gifts $100 and over :)

If you would like to know more about me…
I had my first experience with the cello when I was ten years old, in a lesson with Nan Kimberling at the Georgia Academy of Music. I had not known what the instrument was before, but over the next two years, I grew really attached to the instrument. In 2008 I was accepted into the Atlanta Symphony’s Talent Development Program, where I studied with Joel Dallow. I was a member of the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra for three years, and I participated in the Vega Quartet’s Chamber Program from 2012 to 2013. In past summers I’ve attended the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp, Franklin Pond Chamber Music, and the Bowdoin International Music Festival.  Since 2007, my siblings and I have played together in a piano trio called the Wilson Trio.  We enjoy providing classical and religious music in and around our community. Currently, I am studying with Hans Jørgen Jensen at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music. I help provide music on the piano and cello at the First Evanston Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Evanston, IL, and I am always interested in becoming more involved in and around the area I live in.

Thank you, in advance, for your support!
