In Mabel's Memory

One of the greatest joys in life is discovering that you’re bringing new life into the world. But nothing can prepare you for one of the deepest heartbreaks, delivering a baby who is no longer with us.
On the 21st of April, we received the devastating news that our baby girl, Mabel, no longer had a heartbeat. A few days later, we faced the unimaginable task of going into hospital to give birth, knowing we wouldn’t be bringing her home. As you can imagine, walking into a place filled with the sounds of new life and celebration, while carrying such profound grief, is something no parent should ever have to experience.
In the midst of this heartbreak, we were shown incredible compassion and care by the midwives and bereavement team at Gloucester Royal Hospital. We were taken to the ‘Snowdrop’ Room. This is a private space where we could be joined by our family to welcome Mabel into the world, and at the same time, say our goodbyes in peace.
This is something we wish no parent would ever have to endure, but for some, like us, it becomes a painful reality. In those moments the smallest comforts, offered through the kindness of others, mean more than words can express. Memory boxes, counselling, food baskets, and thoughtful touches throughout the room were all made possible by generous donations to wonderful charities.
In honour of Mabel, and instead of cards or flowers, we would love to raise funds to support the bereavement rooms at Gloucester Royal. We would like to support them with things like food delivery vouchers, a speaker for calming music, and other home comforts that bring peace in the most difficult moments.
We are so thankful for the love and support we’ve received and hope to keep Mabel’s memory alive by helping other families feel less alone.
