Wheelchair van for Tinley
Donation protected
Two years ago, my wife and I were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Tinley. At 6 months old we realize that she wasn't reaching certain physical milestones such as rolling over, sitting up for long periods of time, crawling or even bearing weight on her legs. After a few doctors appointments and a blood draw, Tinley was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 2(SMA) at 10 months old. SMA is in the same family of diseases as Muscular Dystrophy and ALS(Lou Gehrig disease). SMA is a degenerative disease. Tinley will never walk, and can't sit up on her own or for a long period of time. At this time Tinley is currently in a manual wheelchair. We have an amazing team of Dr.'s and therapists trying to keep her strong and healthy. We have appointments almost weekly at Shriners Children's Hospital. Part of this is getting her into an electric wheelchair so that she can enjoy more of the freedoms that are so easily taken for granted, like keeping up with her 3 older sisters- or running over their toes. But while an electric wheelchair is great at the house, we need to be able to get her to her Dr. appointments and out into the world. This is where my wife and I have to swallow our pride and ask for help. We need to get a wheelchair van. We currently struggle with our current vehicles, they are not big enough and can't be converted for a wheelchair and are not in a good financial state to be traded. Wheelchair vans are very expensive, so we aren't trying to buy anything new. Our goal is to get a van that is dependable enough to last for years. We have found an amazing deal on a wheelchair van with low miles in great shape, we just need helps with the funds. We thought we would try this as a lot of people have recomended it and we don't normally ask for help, this is a huge step for us as well as for Tinleys mobility.
