Hi, my name is Nicole and I am Hannah Kaeser's sister. On December 28th, Hannah was diagnosed with stage 4 Signet Ring Cell Adenocarcinoma of her appendix (appendix cancer). Her story is posted and frequently updated on her Caring Bridge page linked below.
To those who haven't read it, here is her story:
On Sunday, December 4th, my 30 year old sister Hannah’s life changed forever. What seemed to be minor pelvic cramping has been quickly unfolding to reveal this unthinkable diagnosis.
On Friday December 16th, the oncology surgeon successfully removed the diseased appendix but there is a long road ahead. Due to the spread of the disease, she is facing a very large surgery in January where they will attempt to remove the other tumors in her abdomen. These tumors are complex and may potentially involve removing parts of other organs. But we pray not. While in the OR, they will likely perform a 90 minute intensive chemotherapy session (HIPEC). She will be hospitalized for 7-10 days and have at least a 3 month recovery.
On Tuesday, January 3rd, Hannah's surgeon is going to present her case to the board of various surgeons and doctors at the UW Hospital. From there, they will develop her best plan and we will discuss at her appointment with him that afternoon. Tentatively, her surgery date has been set for January 13th.
**We created this account for family and friends to support Hannah with the unknown that lies ahead. Many have reached out asking us to put this together for her. Hannah wants everyone to know that her and Steve are financially stable. To her, words of encouragement are all she needs.**
Thank you.
