This is the story of two sisters…one has multiple sclerosis and diabetes and many related issues. She took a bad fall a little over a year ago, was in rehab for five months and will never be fully recovered. Having a supportive, caring husband has allowed her to be where she is happiest – at home. This is no small feat as the house had to be made handicap accessible and she requires a lot of care day and night. Their spirits remain positive and high. As a result of medication to stall the effects of MS as well as diabetes, her kidneys have failed, and she now goes to dialysis three times a week. She has been added to a transplant list which could take years.
The other sister lives in New Mexico and she has selflessly offered to donate one of her kidneys to her sister in the hopes that it will improve the quality of her life. In order to do so, she is undergoing many tests and medical appointments to make sure all will go well. The good news is that everything is coming together and her wish to help her sister is going to come true. The tough news is that she will have to be away from home – traveling to the northeast for the surgery - and her small cleaning business for an indeterminate amount of time. Insurance won’t cover travel and living costs while she is away and may only cover part of the surgery costs.
There are always many hurdles in the transplant process and one might tend to be discouraged but these two sisters are determined to hang in. Your donation to help them make this happen will be appreciated more than you know.
