On December 22, Evan Alexander was riding home on his motorcycle. A black SUV was turning left, and collided with Evan. Evan was propelled through the windshield, and rushed to the hospital. He had multiple injuries, including a brain hemorrhage. Evan spent the next six days in a coma and on a respirator. The doctors tried to wake him several times to no avail. On December 28, the breathing tube was removed, and Evans eyes opened. He was unable to speak or recognize anyone around him. Slowly he has gained the ability to walk and speak, but his memory and functional living skills have been severely impacted.
January 18, Evan will be returning home to his his mother and brother. Sylvia, his mother, is a special education aid in Tustin. She works extremely hard for a meager salary of only $2000 a month. Evan's brother is leaving his job to care for Evan. Prior to this accident, Evan and his brother were paying a portion of rent and living expenses. Silvia is working with a social worker as well as the orange county court system, to obtain a conservatorship. At this point she will be able to apply for social security for Evan as well as any other disability assistance he is eligible for.
Currently we are asking for funds to cover the $600 a month for co-pays for outpatient treatment, several hundred dollars for medications, assistance with home modifications and financial support to cover living costs. We are hoping that the goal amount will cover five months of these expenses. It is assumed that by that time, some financial resources will become available to Silvia. If you know Silvia, you know she's a hard and humble worker. She never asks for anything and gives everything she's got.
