My name is Naomi and I just got robbed. Things were already very precarious for me in terms of finances, physical health, employment prospects, housing stability, and of course emotionally. If we are friends you may know about my mom’s passing and that I lost much of my remaining family at the same time. The circumstances around my mom’s passing, my brother disowning me and my father filing a protection order against me have all been incredibly traumatic. To be clear, the protection order was dismissed because the claims were unsubstantiated and my father didn’t show up to the hearing. But it did add stress and eat up time while I’m desperately trying to keep myself together enough to continue my job hunt during my grieving process.
I’m not trying to make this a smear campaign or battle cry against my family. I’m trying to explain how desperate my situation is. I do not have family support. I can only rely on my friends and their friends. This is a cry for help. I have no one else to turn to and have now lost everything I saved up to carry myself through too. Even if you can’t donate, please share with people in your life who might.
I was considering a gofundme to raise funds before, to help me when my unemployment runs out, but now the need is urgent. Now that I’ve been robbed everything feels a lot more hopeless. This gofundme feels like the only way to get the immediate help I need. Matters have become even more desperate than they were a couple days ago and I need your help. I have reported the theft to the police, the bank, the credit reporting agencies etc, but it is unlikely my account will have its funds restored and even if so that process will take time, much more time than I have. The money that I had saved for July rent, food, medical care, and other needs is all gone.
My mother was my anchor when she was alive. She promised to protect me, always had my back, and told everyone in the hope I would have support. We were very close, and she loved me. I know in my heart, with all sincerity, that I do not deserve this, and that she would want me to have the support I need to stay off the street.
My friend Whitney is helping me put together this GoFundMe asking for $6150, but really anything helps. I have an urgent need to replace stolen funds and pay July’s rent. My unemployment also runs out this month, and I haven’t yet gotten a job despite applying with fervor. I’m working with Whitney to learn about additional job titles I may be qualified for but know less about, and I have a lead on a temp agency for interim work, but nothing solid yet. Once I start working it will still take time before the first paycheck comes in. By mid-July I need to be confident in my ability to pay August rent and my paying work so I can sign a new lease, or I will lose my housing.
Please join me on my journey to get back on my feet. We will keep you updated throughout this process. Right now since my money was stolen I’m focused on rent, food, and basic bills. Anything you can give before July 3rd is especially appreciated to help me deal with this theft. I need $2500 to replace what was stolen. Additional funds are also needed for more transitional funds as my unemployment ends, for medical expenses, and if I can’t get everything together to stay, moving and transition expenses. I am also dealing with a disabling medical condition that is making movement challenging. If I can get additional funds to take care of some of these medical issues it may also open up additional job options.
Thank you for considering helping me financially. If you can’t, I understand, it is difficult out here for so many of us right now. Please consider sharing to boost the signal. If we are friends and you would like to help in other ways, please do let me know about jobs you think would be a good fit for my skills. If you have the bandwidth to be a patient listening ear, I can use more of those right now to help me feel less alone. If you think of something else that you think could be helpful, feel free to reach out.
