Flash’s Emergency Surgery

Donation protected

I’m gonna start this by saying that Bettie fully understands the cost and devotion of having horses and she would never ask for help for normal vet bills or the everyday expenses that come with having them.
Unfortunately she was put in a position to make a very hard decision this week.

Short of it: spend a shit ton of money she doesn’t have or euthanize Flash right then and there in the paddock.
Anyone that knows Bettie knows the decision she made and we rushed Flash to Tufts animal hospital with a referral from his regular vet.

A hole had formed where the stomach and spleen attach to one another and part of his small intestine fell into it and became strangled. This led to them removing 7 feet of his intestines. It was a completely random and very rare thing that could never have been predicted or avoided.

Surgery was Thursday night and we have been getting updates all along. The surgeon said he is doing good and is stable but has a long road to recovery.

The hard part now is that his veterinary and surgery bills for this whole ordeal will be well over $10,000.
As of yesterday they totaled just short of that and there will be daily charges added until he is released late next week.
This is of course coming at a crazy time in all of our lives and don’t expect much or anything at all but any little bit does help.
Thank you
