This is John Curtis, his wife Brenda, and their adopted son Andrew on National Adoption Day in November 2014. John is a great guy with a huge heart. He works full time to support his family, and now with the recent chain of events he is unable to provide for them. John has always gone out of his way to help people and now he needs the community to help him.
It all started with a large cut on his toe that got infected and hospitalized him for a few days in January. They gave him a walking boot to try to keep the wound clean and help with the healing process. He was seeing a podiatrist every 2 weeks to keep a close eye on his toe, and it was looking good. Sunday the 29th, his leg was bothering him, so he went to urgent care. The doctors decided to hospitalize him and keep him for observation. While he was there, he was having trouble breathing, and his oxygen levels were really low, so they decided to treat him better with a ventilator. His condition wasn't improving so they decided to sedate him and gave him a paralytic so he wouldn't fight the ventilator. They then transferred him to Abbott Northwestern Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit where things went from bad to worse quickly. They discovered his kidneys weren't functioning well, so they put him on dialysis to help filter his blood and remove toxins from his body to help get rid of the infection. While putting in the catheter for dialysis, they hit his lung, and it collapsed. They rushed to put a tube in the side to help get the lung back up and functioning. Immediately following the lung procedure, they rushed him to the operating room to amputate his toe because that's where everything started.
John is still in the ICU on a ventilator and is being fed through a feeding tube. John is the sole provider for a family of 3. His family needs help with rent, food, hospital bills, and taking care of 1-year-old Andrew.
Anything you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
