As some of you have heard that my beloved Basil has suddenly fallen ill in March after being completely healthy all his life and passed with flying colours at every vet check previously. His heart is good. His joints are good. Everything was great. However, he has developed sudden neurological issues mainly weak limbs and losing the ability to walk and run properly. He is currently being seen by the neurologist at a specialist hospital and had bloods, MRI and spinal fluids tests done with no definite diagnosis. The investigation is ongoing and we are doing it step by step depending on his condition.

Currently he is on steroids and we will see how he responds to decide on the next step.

Financially thankfully I have had him insured to £8,000 but I had to opt for £300 + 20% in order to afford the insurance premium. So far with the tests we have exhausted about half of his insurance allowance and I had borrowed around £1,000 to pay for the excess. We are not in the worst situation but also not the best, as his insurance allowance will run out quickly with any ongoing investigation and treatment...and for the sake of the children I am trying not to get in more debt. Most importantly I want to make sure we have enough funds for the next stage of investigation and treatment.

I cannot put into words how much I love this boy and how much he means to me. He is my children's best brother. He really saved me from many darkest days especially after Leonardo's passing. All dogs are special but he is such a soulful boy and truly one in a million. I know one day I will lose him regardless but he is only 8 and so healthy up till now. It shouldn't be his time yet.
