Boykin Dance Project's Season TWO

Donation protected
This season, we're beyond excited to welcome Abdiel Figueroa Reyes (Hubbard Street Dance Chicago), Alysia Johnson (Hubbard Street Dance Chicago), and Justin Rapaport (Ballet BC) to create alongside Artistic Director Brian Josiah Martinez (PARA.MAR Dance Theatre), culminating in Boykin TWO, an evening of five diverse dance works to be performed in Chicago, IL and Mobile, AL in 2024, in an effort to decentralize and disseminate dance art and culture from urban to rural spaces.

We need your help to make this happen, though. Projecting similar costs to Boykin ONE, we're looking at about $23,000, which includes:
  • the equitable pay of choreographers at $200 per full day of rehearsal (excluding Martinez, who donates his time and creative talents to the company and cause)
  • providing a substantial and equitable stipend to dancers at about $2,000 each for the creation and performing periods, plus per diem for tour
  • rehearsal space (which generally costs $25-$50 per hour in Chicago, and we'll rehearse over 100 hours, estimated to be anywhere from $3,000-$5,000)
  • costume design (including a consultation with a costume designer)
  • rental of the Ann Barzel Theater for a one-night only performance ($1,500), plus back-of-house production, which typically runs at $45/hour (accounting for 14 total hours of technical rehearsal and show in Chicago, we're looking at $630). The Lewis Copeland Auditorium has been donated as venues for our performances on tour to Mobile in the Fall of 2024. BDP will seek volunteers to coordinate any back stage needs, and Martinez will volunteer as Stage Manager to help alleviate costs of tour
  • Photography and Videography (Chicago- $1,200, Mobile-donated)
  • Travel (airfare, car rental, and lodging for tour)

Boykin Dance Project is a fiscally sponsored entity; if you'd prefer to make your donation tax-deductible, visit our website instead. All donations there will be processed through our fiscal sponsor, Mobile Arts Council.

Should sponsorship for our season and cause be of interest to you or your business, please reach out to discuss sponsorship levels and their respective perks.

Thank you, from each of us at Boykin, for your contribution in ensuring contemporary dance art is accessible to all!
