Dag Brynjarsson: Road-to-Recovery
Donation protected
A vital part of the NetHope community, our dear friend and colleague, Dagbartur Brynjarsson (“Dag”), suffered a serious coronary event while working in Greece on behalf of NetHope in late January. Dag remains in serious condition in a Thessaloniki hospital.
We are seeking to raise funds for Dag and his family to offset the costs of this illness and the loss of income that they are experiencing. Dag’s road to recovery will be a long one. We are hopeful, with his wife Elsi Ros and his daughter Emma Vilborg by his side during his recovery, that we will once again have Dag as an active participant in the NetHope community .
All funds raised through Go Fund Me will be directly given to Dag and his family. The funds will be securely transferred to account set up expressly for this campaign and used to support his continued recovery once he returns home to his family.
Dag got the call to join NetHope on his birthday: October 7, 2015. His friend (and NetHope’s former Emergency Response Director) Gisli Olafsson, asked if he would be willing to help coordinate NetHope’s efforts to establish Wi-Fi connectivity for Syrian refugees arriving in Europe. “Gisli told me it would just be two to three weeks, but I’m still here,” Dag told us in an interview in 2016. “By choice,” he adds.
That choice almost five years ago has expanded to include work with the NetHope responses to natural disasters in Puerto Rico and the Bahamas, as well as the influx of refugees in Northern Uganda and the Venezuelan migrant crisis. Dag has also continued to manage the continued work in the refugee camps in Greece. Dag is a valued team member and instructor in NetHope’s Disaster Response Training offered to NetHope member organizations and tech partners around the world.
We ask that you join us in supporting Dag and his family during this time of need.
