Hello! My name is Jenny Ziobro and I feel extremely lucky to call Lauren Leonard one of my very best friends.
Lauren and I met on Alpha Phi's bid day at Syracuse University in 2012. I know I speak for many when I say I cannot imagine my life without with her! Her compassion, hard work, humor, kindness, and dedication to her family and friends no matter life's trials and tribulations, is something I've learned so much from. Lauren's hard work and integrity brought her to Boston where she works as a Research Assistant in Genetics at the prestigious Boston Children's Hospital and will follow her dreams to become a nurse practitioner.
In the midst of graduating college, settling into her new city of Boston, and pursuing her dreams, Lauren received sudden and shocking news. Lauren was recently diagnosed with stage 4E primary bone diffuse large B cell lymphoma. It is a rare form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma that accounts for only about 1-2% of all cases. The largest tumor was successfully removed from Lauren's skull and brain space in January. However, there are a number of tumors on her bones including her femur, knee, arms, shoulders, ribs, skull, and lumbar spine. She will go through 9 cycles of chemotherapy to treat her bones and CNS in hopes that the cancer is cured from her bones and blood.
When Lauren told me the news, I was devestated to hear. I said sorry countless times and desperately wished this was not happening to her. Not once has Lauren wanted me or others to offer their sympathy or their apologies for this difficult news, rather she encourages those around her to stay as positive as she is. Despite her situation, Lauren still continues to exude happiness and positivity - her attitude and outlook on life is an inspiration to each and every one of us.
We'd like Lauren to solely focus on her healing journey - Let's join in to help Lauren in her fight against Lymphoma! All donations will be used to pay Lauren's medical bills as well as helping her family come to Boston for her treatments. Any additional money willl be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma society.
