On Tuesday, January 15th 2019 my family's lives turned upside down. Our dad was found at home unresponsive. He had suffered a fall and consequently is suffering from a traumatic brain injury. We have been in the ICU for about 2 weeks now. During that time we have experienced a rollercoaster of emotions... one of the first few days he was out of a coma by the grace of God and somehow able to talk/mumble and recognize his family, then a few days after he stopped breathing while his wife and daughters were in the room and needed CPR (for the third time since his initial injury). He's been on video EEGs, CVVH dialysis, many imaging studies and labs.
Ever since, he has been in a comatose state and not able to respond except for being able to open his eyes on command. He has a tracheostomy (breathing tube) connected to a ventilator and feeding tube now. We are hoping to get him transferred to a long-term acute care hospital this week. This type of anoxic brain injury requires a lot of patience because there is no certain amount of time or specific treatment for recovery. It is individualized and can take days, weeks, months, or years to gain partial function back.
We pray that he reaches a point where he can communicate. He has so much to live for...his birthday in February, his 25th wedding anniversary this March, his cats and dog at home, his carpet cleaning business, watching Julia (youngest daughter) play softball, helping Gina (middle child) with college decisions, and walking Natalie (oldest) down the aisle at her wedding this July!
Any donations here will go straight to medical expenses. Thank you for considering! Please continue to keep us in your prayers. If you want to help in any other way, food donations and home cooked meals are also appreciated since we spend a lot of time at Dad's bedside.
