Preston "Bubba" Adams is 44 years old and was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. Bubba resides in San Antonio with his wife Rhonda and their 8 year old son Logan. Bubba graduated in 1988 from East Central High School and currently works as a High School Counselor for Harlandale ISD.
Bubba was diagnosed with IGA Kidney Disease 3 years ago. Everyday Bubba endures and suffers from chronic pain and discomfort, extreme exhaustion and severe anemia. There are many other side effects to this disease as well.
Bubba has made many adjustments in his life to try to live with this disease as best as he can. He continues to work full-time and be a father and husband. However, presently, he has become less able to actively participate in his own life. Unfortunately, the time has come for Bubba to have a kidney transplant in order to survive this horrible disease.
While Bubba is currently on the Kidney Transplant List, the wait time to receive a cadaver kidney is typically 5-8 years. Can you imagine???
This is where YOU come in! YOU can be a hero and help save Bubba's life! If you are interested in seeing if you are a match to donate a kidney to Bubba, please read the following:
Step 1: Call the Kidney Donor Hotline at (210) [phone redacted]. You will leave a message and state that you are interested in seeing if you are a kidney donor match for Preston Adams Jr.
Step 2: You will receive a call back and will need to provide Bubba's full name (Preston Adams Jr.) and his date of birth (7/11/70). They will pre-screen you over the phone to confirm that you are eligible to donate. Here are the requirements to donate:
-You must be 65yrs or younger
-You must have a BMI of 35 or less
-You must not be diabetic
-You must not have had or currently have cancer
-Your blood pressure must be in a normal range however, if you are on blood pressure medication it is ok as long as it is a low dose.
Step 3: If you meet the requirements during the pre-screen call, you will be scheduled for a blood test at the hospital. If you do not reside in San Antonio, Texas NO PROBLEM! They will mail you the items you will need to take to your local hospital or lab with the instructions. There is no out of pocket expense for you to worry about as Bubba's health insurance covers your expenses.
Step 4: Once you have completed your blood work you will be notified if you are a match.
Step 5: AMAZING! You are a match! Now what? Methodist Transplant Hospital in San Antonio, TX will contact you to schedule a full day of testing and have you attend various informational meetings to ensure that you are completely ready and educated about the procedure and recovery. Once again, it's OK if you don't reside in San Antonio, TX. Your airfare and hotel expense will be paid so you don't have to worry about that either!
Step 6: YOU MADE IT! It's Surgery Day!! WooHoo for you (feels good to be a hero doesn't it?!) and a loud WOOHOO for Bubba! The donor's surgery and all expenses associated with the surgery will be covered by Bubba's health insurance so there is no out of pocket expense for the donor!!!
As with everything, there are risks associated with any type of surgery. That nasal surgery you had, yep risk! The surgery on your leg to fix that broken bone, yep you guessed it...risk! While this is a serious surgery, Kidney Transplants are EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL for the donor and the recipient however risks are involved like any other surgery. Please make sure to research this surgery prior to finding out if you are a match.
We have created this Gofundme account because as you can imagine, there are many expenses associated with this disease. The prices of medications Bubba is currently taking and new medications he will need to take after the transplant are extremely expensive.
