Dee Abayon Ordonez Medical Fund
Donation protected
Two weeks ago my sister, Dee Abayon Ordonez learned she has breast cancer. She has an amazing team of doctors that in two weeks, got her a mammogram, a MRI, a biopsy, meetings with oncologists, surgeons, radiologists but most importantly has created a swiftly moving action plan that will require her to have a mastectomy within the next few weeks. You all know and love Dee: she is stubborn, positive, high energy, spazzy, strong, loving, giving of herself, she collects and cares for strays (animals and humans) and will never ask for help - even from me (I did say she was stubborn!).
After the shock of the last few weeks she has taken on that "warrior attitude" that I have seen overtake many of my friends that have faced cancer. Her doctor (whom she just met) sent her a text that said "I have been doing this for 15 years and you are amazing in how you are handling this." Yes, I said her doctor "texted" her. Those of you that know Dee well, know she is easy to talk to, easy to open up to, she will help you even when you don’t know you need help, and basically she quickly becomes a "close friend" - even when you are meeting her for the first time and giving her the news that she has breast cancer! Let’s just say that two of her doctors have already asked her over to meet their families and have a glass or two of wine! It is that attitude and foundation of caring that has driven her doctor to pull many strings to get her treatment plan moving so quickly!
Well, today I found out that her medical coverage will not cover all of her medical expenses, she will have a battery of tests, several surgeries, several treatments that may include radiation and chemo and an ongoing plan of medication she will need to take for years. As a single mother, that does not have dual coverage or is lucky enough to have the type of insurance that covers the majority of expenses, this is definitely not something she had planned for or even could manage without help.
Guess what? She never asked for help, she never once even thought about it, in fact she doesn’t even know that I am doing this now. She has come up with ideas of how she could pay for the out of pocket expenses but I know with what she faces those plans won’t be easy for her to manage without help.
So I am asking for her! I know many of you still keep in touch with her - though "old school" methods as she is not a social media lover! But, most of you do keep in touch with me this way, so I am taking to my methods to ask for help for her. She doesn’t know about this yet and I don’t want her to know about it yet because she is focused on her treatment and upcoming surgery. I am hoping that those of you that have been blessed to call Dee your friend, will help by donating to this fund. Your gift will go directly to her medical expenses, treatment plan and/or help for expenses for her and Ella while she is out of work.
If you have any questions, please contact me directly. Also, I am going to try and convince her to at least post an update to a blog site where updates either by her or me can be shared so her phone is not blown up by questions.
We appreciate your help, prayers, and your love! Thanks much!
