Support for the Thompson Family
Eugene Thompson was a husband and father to four children. He passed away on July 12th from unknown complications from a knee replacement surgery that took place a few days prior.
In March 2019, Gene underwent a lung transplant at Temple University Hospital that went extremely successful. His famous line after the surgery was, “If I only live for 10 more minutes, I would be content.” Two weeks after his surgery, he was back home and began trying to better himself and his health. The last thing that needed to be fixed was his knee.
Following his knee replacement on July 6th, the day before his birthday, he had a very bad reaction to the medication (Lyrica) prescribed by the surgeon. He ended up having to be rushed to the hospital and after several tests and scans, the doctors concluded that it was simply an overdose like reaction to the medication. The days following, Gene got progressively better in the hospital. He regained his sense of self after the medication left his system and began walking to try to strengthen his knee. On July 12th, at about 1am, his wife received a call that he had gone into cardiac arrest and the nurseswere trying to resuscitate him.
Gene leaves behind him wife (Karen), 20 year old daughter (Summer), 23 year old daughter (Bryonna), Heather, and Gene as well as his other loving familymembers and friends.
Due to past hardships, such as cancer and lack of life insurance, our family has been struggling greatly with the financial side of this lose. My mom is already looking into selling the house but has no way of paying the mortgage and other costs until then. As a college student, I can only contribute so much.
I made this fundraiser to give my mom that closure and to give my dad the memorial he deserves. For anyone who knew my dad, he was a really loving and funny guy and I feel sad that he won’t be able to see me graduate college or attend my sisters wedding next year. He was a fighter until the end and will always be remembered for his kind heart.
