Jared's Medical Bills

Jared's story
No, he's not Jared the jeweler, and no, he's not Jared the spokesman for the nationwide Subway sandwich. This is my brother Jared. On March 6, 2015 Jared was diagnosed with gastroesophageal cancer. For those of you who are not familiar with this type of cancer, in terms of number of new cases per year, this is one of the fastest-growing cancers in America right now. It's cause is unknown but thought to be gastric reflux, which he never suffered from, or possibly food additives. Jared will require chemotherapy and radiation followed by surgery to beat this. He will not be able to work while he undergoes treatment and surgery.

I want to tell you a little bit about my brother. Jared has been a caregiver his whole life. For 30 years as a Respiratory Therapist he has cared for his patients, always treating them with dignity and compassion. Jared has been a volunteer on a federal medical team since 2003 and has been deployed many times. He spent up to two weeks at a time at places like Hurricane's Charley, Ivan, Katrina, Rita, Guestav and others, working with his team to provide medical care at these disaster sites. When he returned from living at the airport in New Orleans for two weeks after Katrina he felt like he had returned from a war zone.

Jared also managed our mothers care for years after a fall down the stairs left her paralyzed for life. Traveling back and forth from Florida to Arizona at his own expense. Sadly, our mother passed away 4 days ago, on April 1,2015. Jared did not tell her about his condition, nor will he be able to travel to her services.

For the past eight years Jared has also been the legal guardian of our 44 year old brother, Phil. Phil was born with significant physical and mental challenges that will keep him confined to a wheelchair and requiring total care all his life. Jared manages his daily care as well as providing him with emotional support.

As you can imagine we are all shocked, devastated and needless to say worried and hurting with him. Our family has decided to put together this GoFundMe site with hope that you can help us in this endeavor. Our goal is to raise at least $20,000 to help offset the significant medical expenses not covered by insurance and help him with his day to day living expenses while he is out of work. If you can contribute thank you so much! If you are unable to donate at this time your prayers and words of encouragement will be greatly appreciated.
