I am starting a GoFundMe to help support my friend Aliya, who has suffered immense mental and physical trauma as a result of sexual abuse. Last year she became a victim of sexual abuse, and was unable to gain much support from the police or law enforcement. Unfortunately they did not help her find a conclusion, let alone find justice to press charges against her abuser. With these circumstances, she felt no hope in being able to feel safe knowing that she was unable to have support from legal enforcement.
A year later, during this summer (June 15th, 2020) she had decided to find the help of her friends online with social media to share her story in order to bring awareness to her situation. By sharing her experience of sexual abuse, many other victims of the same abuser had come forward to share their own personal experiences of sexual assault and harassment from this individual. For a month she had immense support from many other women in the lower mainland.
Unfortunately, Aliya’s abuser is now trying to sue her for defamation and slander because of these social media posts about him, despite the allegations against him being true. Aliya is financially unable to afford legal support to protect herself against being sued, and as her friend I’d like to support her. This situation has caused her not only mental and physical trauma, but has led to her losing her job as well as being unable to attend school. She is now unable to work and fears financial difficulties in her personal life due to these circumstances. We are in dire need of your support in raising a goal of $5,000 to help Aliya pay for legal support as well as her household bills. Due to the legal issues she is now dealing with, she is financially uncertain as to how she may support herself. She is urgently in need and it would be kindly appreciated if you could help us by donating so she can afford the support she needs during this difficult time. The funds are needed as soon as possible as her legal response is required this week.
